"Washing Machine"

A few meters upstream water is diverted into the millrace. It powers a grist mill using a water wheel just behind the building on the left. Lifting a gate allows a portion of the water to flow down the chute and into the "washing machine" where items like rugs or blankets have been placed. They are left for several hours before being hung to drip dry. Though this one is purpose built, they are often made from half of a barrel by removing every other stave. A village will have enough to serve all of its families. They are privately owned, the owner receiving payment for each use. The first launderettes?
