Attending Church
These people are attending the Greco-Catholic church in Ieud. The old wooden churches
are so small that it is typical for many to stand outside for the service, which can last
several hours.
This service is at the new church which was built in 1717 after the last Tartar
invasion of the region.
Ieud is a highly traditional village where a divorce and abortion has never been
recorded. It is also home to more than 50 of Nicolae Ceausescu's heroine mothers
having more than fourteen children each. It is common for families to have six to eight
children and children represent more than half of the population of 5,000 - and growing! |
