Door Lock at the Old Church

This is a view from inside the church at the ingenious door lock at the old church in Ieud. Though recently replaced, it is a fairly accurate reproduction with the exception of the iron straps.

The door, which has a receiver for the notched wooden slide,  is just to the right. It is in the unlocked position. The key is a rod with a notch at one end and a tab held in the notch with a pin so it can move freely. To lock or unlock the door, the key is inserted into a hole from the outside so the tab will fall and engage the notches in the bolt. It is repeatedly turned, working the bolt in the desired direction.
