Will started collecting puzzles in 1972. He was interested mainly in dexterity puzzles at the time. In 1979 he discovered many of the nicely made Pentangle puzzles in London and redirected his interests. Through most of his puzzles are Take-Apart puzzles, he won first place in the 1990 Hikimi Puzzle Competition with Just Fit and second place in 1994 with Anti-Slide; both Put-Together puzzles.
